Benefits for You

Using ICFs in the construction of your home benefits you immediately with cost savings. ICF homes are far more energy-efficient than traditionally built homes, saving you up to 50% or more on energy bills. Homes built with Amvic ICFs continue to grow stronger with time as the concrete cures within the forms. The result is a stronger, sturdier home that requires less maintenance costs and retains a higher resale value. ICF homes are considered masonry construction and may take advantage of applicable insurance discounts. Since there is no food value in ICFs for insects, the possibility of structural damage by termites is virtually eliminated, also resulting in savings on pest control expenses.

House still standing after hurricane Katrina This photo from ICF Builder Magazine's August/September 2006 issue shows an ICF home still standing amidst the devastation of hurricane Katrina. This house in Pass Christian, Mississippi was subjected to a tidal surge 22 feet high pushed by 150-mph winds.

A recent article in ICF Builder Magazine cites studies at Texas Tech University that simulated flying debris with 2 X 4 studs being launched into various wall assemblies at nearly 100 mph. Wood- and steel-stud walls were penetrated by studs even at speeds around 50 mph, and brick veneer could not stop 70-mph stud missiles. Nothing was able to penetrate any of the ICF walls tested.

Insurance companies are starting to offer incentives to encourage home building to higher standards and are agreeing to certify them as disaster-resistant structures, according to an article in ICF Builder Magazine from its August/Septmember 2006 issue.

You'll notice a more comfortable environment in your ICF home immediately. The high level of energy efficiency of ICF construction contributes to the comfort of your home by eliminating drafts and hot and cold spots, and by allowing for improved temperature control inside your house. Members of your family will reap the benefit of better air quality due to the reduction of airborne fiberglass insulation particles, and the impermeable walls prevent the entry of dust, pollens and pollution. Amvic ICF-constructed homes prevent the growth of mold and mildew by virtue of their impermeable nature and lack of organic material. Moisture cannot infiltrate the highly-effective combination of non-organic EPS and concrete from which Amvic ICFs are manufactured.
